Situated amongst historic dairy-farming country in the heart of the Margaret River wine appellation, Bussells Bushland Cottages is a homely and serene retreat surrounded by nature. The rustic charm of the eight self-contained rammed-earth cottages is complemented by the 20 hectare bush block. The property is well treed with jarrah, marri, banksia and peppermint trees; and is home to prolific birdlife, possums, brush-tailed phascogales (wambengers), bandicoots and kangaroos.

Conveniently situated close to all the region’s best features, Bussells Bushland Cottages remains the property of choice for many hundreds of visitors to the region. Be sure to visit the nearby Saturday morning Farmer’s Market and take a whale watching tour to see migrating southern right and humpback whales.

Brian Spitteler is the owner of Bussells Bushland Cottages, which is set on 20 hectares of native forest and features several walking trails. The forest is dominated by Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata), Marri (Corymbia calophylla) and peppermint (Eucalyptus nicholii) gums as well as banksias.

An abundance of wildlife is present including western grey kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus), southern brown bandicoots (Isoodon obesulus), brush-tailed phascogales (Phascogale tapoatafa), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) and various skinks.

A vast array of birdlife is also present on the property including splendid (Malurus splendens) and red-winged (Malurus elegans) fairy wrens, western rosellas (Platycercus icterotis), white-eared (Nesoptilotis leucotis) and white-naped (Melithreptus lunatus) honeyeaters, red-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus banksii), southern boobooks (Ninox boobook), laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae) and red wattlebirds (Anthochaera carunculata).
